Scientists from Stanford University presented a digital camera Frankencamera, positioned as an Open Source-project.

Design prototype camera was developed by graduate student Andrew Adams (Andrew Adams). He is pictured with her professor, Mark left (Marc Levoy):

The camera consists of the following components: an electronic circuit for SoC (system on chip) from Texas Instruments with two processors (general purpose and image processing) and a small LCD-screen, the camera module of the phone Nokia N95; lenses Canon. Body of the device was made independently at Stanford. It works under the operating system GNU / Linux.

The project was supported Frankencamera companies Nokia, Adobe Systems, Kodak and Hewlett-Packard.

It should also remind us of the existence of Elphel, based Russians and specializes in the creation of open digital cameras and camcorders.
